Session 2.1

The Causeway, The Cage, and the Key

The adventurers, now in the fantastical realm of Prismeer, found themselves on a massive causeway towering a hundred feet above a swamp. As they carefully made their way down, using handholds, footholds, and conveniently placed mushrooms, the humid air grew thick with the scent of the swamp. Fireflies flickered in the twilight, illuminating the strange and beautiful mushrooms that thrived in this damp environment.

A giant crane lifted into the air, its departure drawing the attention of a band of harengon brigands to the presence of the adventurers. The brigands approached cautiously, but Filbert, ever resourceful, used his magic to create a convincing note of deputization from Agdon Longscarf. With a successful deception, the party convinced the brigands that they were part of their team.

To further solidify their ruse, the adventurers shared their musical talents with the brigands, who were delighted by the performance. In return for their entertainment, the brigands pointed the party in the direction of a slanty tower. They also shared their knowledge of the area, explaining that this region was called “Hither” and that it was ruled over by a mysterious figure known as Bavlorna Blightstraw.

As the adventurers continued their journey towards the slanty tower, they encountered strange bubbles that emitted a foul, cheese-like stench. Wary of these odorous orbs, the party cautiously navigated around them. Upon reaching the tower, they discovered Sir Talavar, a knight trapped within a silver cage, suspended high above the ground. A detect magic spell revealed that the cage could only be opened with a key or a knock spell.

Sir Talavar shared his tale of woe with the party. He explained that he was a knight in service to Queen Titania, the summer queen of the fae realm. He had been imprisoned by the malevolent Bavlorna, but a brave bullywog had given its life to provide him with a chance to escape. Unfortunately, the bullywog’s balloon had crashed, leaving Sir Talavar stranded in the silver cage. Sir Talavar’s mission was to warn Queen Titania of a grave threat—Zybilna, the rightful heir to the throne, had been captured and imprisoned by the Hourglass Coven, a trio of powerful and scheming hags.

Sir Talavar revealed that the key to his freedom was in the possession of Jingle Jangle, a collector of keys who resided on Tolemy hill. Following his directions, the adventurers set off to find Jingle Jangle and the key to Sir Talavar’s cage.

  • Arrived on a huge causeway, 100 feet above a swamp
  • Acornagorn remembered the three rules of Prismeer: the Rule of Hospitality, the Rule of Ownership, and the Rule of Reciprocity
  • Filbert sees a balloon crash
  • You find handholds and footholds and mushrooms and find your way to the bottom of the causeway
  • The swamp is smelly and foggy, filled with mushrooms and fireflies and frogs. It is twilight.
  • A giant crane takes off, alerting a band of harengon brigands to your presence, who approached you.
  • Filbert created a note of deputization from Agdon Longscarf using a spell, and with a 21 deception check, convinced the brigands you were part of their team.
  • You played them a song, which delighted them, as a gift to them, and they pointed the way to the slanty tower. They also explained that this land is called “Hither” and that Bavlorna Blightstraw runs it.
  • You left to travel for the slanty tower, where you encountered some bubbles that were belching stinky cheese-smelling gas, but you avoided popping any of them yourselves.
  • You traveled to the slanty tower, where you encountered Sir Talavar, trapped in a silver cage (which you couldn’t see from the ground).
  • You slipped past two huge snakes, got his cage, and discovered with a detect magic spell that you couldn’t open his cage except with a key or a knock spell.
  • He told you that he was trapped in his cage by Bavlorna, but he was given the opportunity to escape from her clutches by a brave bullywog, who died when the balloon crashed.
  • He was a knight who worked for Queen Titania, the summer queen of the fae realm, and he wanted to get back to warn her that Zybilna has been trapped in her castle by the Hourglass Coven.
  • And the three members of the coven hate each other, despite working together to trap Zybilna and take over this realm.
  • He knows that his key is held by Jingle Jankle, on Tolemy hill.
  • You traveled to Tolemy hill but ended up stuck on a raft just as the waters rose up to 5 feet.
  • Filbert tried to make an oar using his quarterstaff and a plate but struggled, and eventually Acornagorn took them and created an oar, which you used to travel to the hill.
  • On the hill, you encountered awakened trees, who asked you your business.
  • You played a song for them, which they took as a sign of friendship, and they encouraged you to visit Jingle Jangle, who collects keys.
  • You made your way into Jingle Jangle’s den, at the top of the hill, where after some serious flirting with Filbert, she gave you the silver key you were looking for and warned you that the harengons are a bad bunch.
  • You left, playing a song to celebrate that the trees enjoyed.
  • One of the trees gave Zahala a key and told her she might need it later.
  • You negotiated with Sir Talavar, who happily gave you his sword for his release.
  • You returned his sword to him, and he flew away to warn Titania, also promising to return if he can with some support.
  • And you leveled up!
