Session 2.2

Brigands and Treasures

Having successfully secured the key to Sir Talavar’s cage from Jingle Jangle’s dwelling, the adventurers continued their journey through the swampy realm of Hither. They arrived at the inviting “Inn at the End of the Road,” where the proprietor, Tsu, provided them with a warm welcome and a hearty meal. As they enjoyed their respite, Tsu informed them of the dire situation in Prismeer—their friend, Zybilna, the rightful ruler, had been deposed by the malevolent hag, Bavlorna Blightstraw.

The adventurers enjoyed a well-deserved long rest at the inn, during which Acornagorn experienced a series of vivid and unsettling dreams filled with enigmatic fae creatures. Upon waking, they learned from the locals about a peculiar scarecrow named Clapperclaw, rumored to possess knowledge of the path to Thither, a neighboring region within Prismeer.

Their stay at the inn proved fruitful in other ways as well. With their musical talents, they charmed their hosts, earning themselves a valuable set of Thieves’ Tools as a parting gift. Thus equipped, they ventured back onto the main thoroughfare, only to find themselves on the treacherous Brigand’s Tollway, a haven for brigands and other unsavory characters.

Their journey took a perilous turn when they were ambushed by a formidable group of Harengon brigands, led by the imposing figure of Agdon Longscarf, whose most distinctive feature was a magnificent fifteen-foot-long scarf. The ensuing battle tested the adventurers’ skills and resolve to their limits. Each member of the party suffered the indignity of being knocked unconscious at least once as they struggled to withstand the onslaught of their attackers. Despite their valiant efforts, the tide of battle seemed to be turning against them, and their situation grew dire.

However, in a moment of unexpected ingenuity, Acornagorn managed to seize Agdon’s prized scarf, using it as leverage against the formidable Harengon leader. Unable to break free from Acornagorn’s grasp and fearing for his safety, Agdon reluctantly surrendered, his blustering facade crumbling as he pleaded for mercy.

With their leader subdued, the remaining Harengon brigands, known for their fickle nature, quickly switched allegiances, revealing a surprisingly affable and friendly demeanor towards their former captives. They readily agreed to be tied up, allowing the exhausted adventurers to take a much-needed long rest.

During their respite, the adventurers discovered a collection of truffles, each containing a curious key, suggesting the handiwork of the enigmatic Jingle Jangle. They also stumbled upon a collection of intriguing trinkets, their purpose and significance yet to be revealed. Among their possessions was the mysterious branding iron, a powerful artifact that seemed to function only when used by Agdon.

As they prepared to resume their journey, the adventurers made the unconventional decision to transport their captive, Agdon, by dropping him thirty feet from the top of a tree stump onto the waiting skiff below. With Acornagorn positioned atop the stump and Filbert and Zahala standing beside the dazed Agdon and the skiff, the adventurers were poised to continue their adventure into the heart of Prismeer.

  • You started on the edge of Telemy Hill, having released Sir Talavar and gotten a key from one of the trees
  • You encountered the “Inn at the end of the Road,” where Tsu fed you and told you Zybilna is a great leader but she has been deposed by Bavlorna Blightstraw
  • You had a nice long rest, during which Acornagorn had some wacky dreams about fae creatures
  • You heard about a scarecrow called clapperclaw who can serve as a guide to Thither
  • You got yourselves a set of Thieves Tools as payment for playing a beautiful song on the way out
  • You found yourselves on the Brigand’s Tollway, where a whole pack of Harengons attacked you, including one with a 15-foot long glorious scarf. All of you were knocked out at least once during the battle, you tried a bunch of things, you had a rough time of it, and things were dire, BUT
  • Acornagorn managed to catch and cling to Agdon’s scarf, and then when Agdon wasn’t able to escape (an opposed strength check) he surrendered, blubbering about not wanting to get hurt.
  • The Harengons were affable and friendly to you at that point, having seen you defeat their leader. They willingly tied themselves up and let you take a long rest.
  • You found a set of truffles with keys in them that seems to belong to Jingle Jangle
  • You found a bunch of little trinkets.
  • You have the branding iron, though it doesn’t work for anyone except Agdon
  • And you just dropped Agdon 30 feet onto the tollway, planning on loading him into a skiff. Acornagorn is at the top of the stump where he dropped him. Filbert and Zahala are at the bottom of the stump, next to the skiff and the bruised Agdon.
